MUMBAI: A routine nakabandi to check illegal transportation of liquor revealed the murder of a 28-year-old Rajasthan resident in Vasai, as police found his body in a car boot while it was being taken to Nashik for disposal. Two brothers, who run a sweetmeat shop in Vasai, have been arrested for murdering the man, who was allegedly blackmailing one of them over an illicit relationship Sources said the murder came to light around 5 am on Monday when police stopped a speeding Figo at Waghote toll naka on Manor-Wada Road. When questioned, the driver, Madanlal Savak (28), said they were traders headed to Nashik on work. When police asked the person seated by the driver—Madanlal’s brother Shravan (19)—to alight, they found three plastic bottles of kerosene and a nylon rope below his seat. Suspecting foul play, as the police checked the boot, they found a suitcase with a body inside.During questioning, the duo identified the victim as their friend Narayanlal Sevak (28), from their hometown, Kumbhalgarh in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. Police learnt that Sevak had been allegedly blackmailing Madanlal and extorting money from him for two years after learning that he had a second marriage in Vasai. Madanlal’s first wife resides in Rajasthan and none in the village knew about his second marriage.According to Madanlal, Narayanlal, who also runs a sweetmeat shop in their village, would visit Vasai and take away Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 from him. Besides, Madanlal would have to bear the cost of Narayanlal's food, accommodation and travels.Madanlal told police that recently Narayanlal started demanding around Rs 1 lakh from him and landed at his Vasai home unannounced, around 5.30 am on Sunday. As Madanlal told him he needed time to arrange for the cash, Narayanlal went off to sleep.Around 10 am, when Narayanlal started demanding immediate payment, Madanlal said, he started getting afraid what would happen if his village learnt about his marriage to a woman from a different community. So to silence him, Madanlal pulled out a nylon rope and strangled Narayanlal with the help of his brother. Police said Madanlal's second wife was away when the murder happened. The duo then went to market and bought a huge suitcase in which they kept the body after tying it with an adhesive tape. Police said the brothers hired a Figo and waited till 3 am on Monday to set out to burn the body in a desolate place in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik. The brothers have been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence). The body has been sent for autopsy. The accused will be produced before the Vasai court on Tuesday. The case has been transfered to the Manickpur police station in Vasai.
