A retired Naval captain was arrested in Mumbai (Representational) A retired Naval captain was arrested in Mumbai (Representational) A RETIRED Naval captain was arrested in Mumbai on Saturday for allegedly duping several people on the pretext of giving them jobs at the Navy. The accused, Captain (retd) Imendri Trinetra (49), had taken voluntary retirement from the Navy in 2001. He now runs Saraswati Defence Academy in Vishakapatnam, said police. He is alleged to have taken Rs 6 lakh each from six men who study in his academy and promised them jobs at the office of the Principal Controllers of Defence Accounts (Navy), Colaba. A Crime Branch official said Trinetra got the men medically examined at a Vishakapatnam hospital and after informing them that they had cleared the tests, he handed them over placement letters. The alleged fraud came to light on Saturday when the men went to the Colaba office and submitted the “appointment letters”. “They said they were students of Sarasvati Defence Academy and had paid Rs 6 lakh each to Trinetra to get jobs as canteen attendants,” an officer said. Dilip Sawant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection), Mumbai, said: “Trinetra, who was in Mumbai, was called for questioning. We found that Trinetra made false promises to the aspirants and also managed to get them undergo a medical test at a local hospital there.” He added that Trinetra sent the candidates fake appointment letters from New Delhi. A case was lodged on a complaint made by the office of the Chief Defence Audit Controller, following which the accused was arrested and booked on charges of cheating and forgery under the IPC.
