(Express Photo) THE AAM Aadmi Party (AAP) Saturday demanded a judicial probe into the killing of tigress Avni. This comes a day after the state government constituted a four-member panel, comprising wildlife experts and officials, to conduct an “in-depth” probe into the killing. The government has come under fire over the killing of the tigress last Friday, who was believed to have killed 13 people in the last two years in Yavatmal district. On Saturday, AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon said: “The probe panel should be headed by a judge (not from Maharashtra) and should include a veterinary doctor and experts.” Alleging that the post-mortem report of Avni showed that she had not eaten for five days before she was killed, Menon said: “It’s been eight days since Avni was killed. Her post-mortem report suggest that she didn’t eat for five days before her death. This means that her cubs have not eaten for 13 days. The cubs should be rescued immediately.” Menon claimed that the committee has junior members from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests office, who might not be in a position to conduct a fair probe. “The committee constituted by Minister of Forests, Sudhir Mungantiwar, is unacceptable. No expert or judicial member has been included… Moreover all the members are administrative staff and have no veterinary, ballistic, and other relevant expertise.” Mungantiwar said Saturday: “People are politicising the issue… and even connecting the matter with land being given to an industrialist.” Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam Saturday accused Mungantiwar of having links with the international poaching mafia.
