Seawoods-Uran line in Mumbai: Over 3,000 tickets sold on Day 1

AS many as 3,072 tickets were sold at Bamandongri and Kharkopar railway stations on Monday after the Seawoods-Uran line was inaugurated on Sunday. While 2,130 tickets were sold at Bamandongri, 942 tickets were sold at Kharkopar. Twenty pairs of shuttle trains operated in the first phase on Monday. “According to the ticket sales and earning till 4 pm on Monday, more than 3,000 tickets were sold at the two stations. While 2,130 tickets were sold at Bamandongri, 942 tickets were sold at Kharkopar. We recorded a total earning of Rs 90,000,” a senior railway official said. Ten pairs of trains will run from Seawoods and 10 pairs of trains will run from Belapur CBD daily, officials said. On Sunday, close to 677 passengers took the inaugural train. Rani Kadam who usually takes a bus till Seawoods Darave station said: “I stay between Bamandongri and Kharkopar stations. Today, I thought of traveling through Bamandongri station. It was cheaper.” Subhash Gupta from the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee said: “Commuters have been waiting to use the railway line for almost 20 years. It is well made and will greatly benefit the people.” The line will benefit commuters in southern Navi Mumbai who can now be connected to south Mumbai.
