There seems to be little action when it comes to taking one against private hospitals and dispensaries not working as per norms. An activist found that after following up on numerous complaints he had made despite bringing to notice the action that should have been taken. Sunil Shirishkar, an activist had filed RTI applications to know about the details of the private hospital and dispensaries in Chembur. Through his applications, he had sought details of those that are violating norms and those on which action was taken and to be taken. Shirishkar said that he had sought details because a number of them did not seem to be functioning as per norms. He claimed that he had done all of it in public interest. As per information provided to him under RTI, there were 24 unregistered private nursing homes and hospitals. Some of them were served notice but there was no action taken beyond that. "When I sent a letter and followed up on the action taken by filing an RTI application, the municipal commissioner's office sent the letter to deputy municipal commissioner (public health). The deputy municipal commissioner's office, in turn, sent it to the office of concerned deputy municipal commissioner of Chembur zone which said that they are yet to hear of any action taken by the ward office. They also asked that I check with building and factory. Despite bringing to their notice, they do not seem to be taking any action. If there are so many in one ward, imagine what is the scenarios across the city," said Shirshkar.
