Mumbai: Five-year-old boy dies in lift mishap

Police said the allegations of malfunctioning lift would be looked into after the lift inspector submitted a report. The lift started moving even though the lift gate was still open. The lift returned to the ground floor, injuring Ansh in the process.The siblings screamed and alerted the residents. At around 10.30 am, they got into the lift to get back to their flat. Ansh tried to close the gate but was caught in the gap between the gate and the outside door.

MUMBAI: A five-year-old boy from Nalasopara died after being crushed in the lift of his residential building that allegedly malfunctioned while moving from ground to first floor on Saturday.Ansh Gond, a senior kindergarten student resided in ‘D’ wing of Ishtiyak Complex , Dias Residency Park, Sativali, Vasai (east) with his parents and two siblings.On Saturday, the siblings went to play in the building compound. At around 10.30 am, they got into the lift to get back to their flat. One of them pressed the first floor button. The lift started moving even though the lift gate was still open. Ansh tried to close the gate but was caught in the gap between the gate and the outside door. The lift returned to the ground floor, injuring Ansh in the process.The siblings screamed and alerted the residents. Ansh was taken to the hospital where he was later declared dead.Residents said that the seven-storey building had a malfunctioning lift and they had pointed it out to the builder on several occasions in the past two years. Residents undertook a signature campaign demanding arrest of the builder for negligence.The Valiv police registered a case of accidental death. Police said the allegations of malfunctioning lift would be looked into after the lift inspector submitted a report.
