KALYAN: A 50-year-old ticket-checker posted with Kalyan division died while trying to catch a ticketless passenger after falling from a local train at Umbarmali station on Friday morning. Sub-inspector (Kalyan GRP) Ramesh Chavan said, "After alighting, the passenger boarded another compartment. His family and colleagues said the railways must scrap the policy of setting targets for ticket-checkers to collect fines from passengers. Gaikwad tried to board that compartment but lost his balance and fell as the train started. Arun Gaikwad was on duty between Kasara and Titwala , when he boarded a train at Kasara for Titwala.A GRP official said around 9.30am, when the train reached Umbarmali, Gaikwad noticed the passenger trying to flee and chased him.
