Apoorva Prabhu, 35, who was assigned operation theatre duties, Ranjana Tambe, 40, who worked in the orthopaedic ward, and Bhakti Shinde, 40, were on their way to work when the slabs from the bridge that connects CSMT’s Platform No. 1 to BT Lane came crashing down.Prabhu, Tambe and Shinde were from Dombivali and were travelling together yesterday. While Prabhu and Tambe were wheeled into GT together where they were declared dead on arrival, an injured Shinde was sent towhere she was declared dead. The three others who died in the crash have been identified as Zahid Khan, 32, Tapendra Singh, 22, and Mohan Kayangude, 55, who worked with a jeweller.One of the nurses from GT said that the victims’ belongings were not found near them, and their identities were established only after the bodies were brought to the hospital where their colleagues saw the bodies. Nurse Prabhu’s husband, who reached the hospital just when senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde and other politicians had also arrived there, lashed out at them saying, “What kind of leaders are you? You are the ones who don’t work properly to build good infrastructure and have now come to see the dead.” Sobbing incessantly near his wife’s body, he said, “I spoke to her when she boarded the train. She was on the night shift and we were supposed to meet again only on Friday morning. But I’m meeting her so soon.” Nurse Bhakti Shinde is survived by her husband Rajendra Shinde and a son. She was brought to GT in a severely injured condition and was declared dead after an ECG was conducted on her.Just like Prabhu’s husband, Zahid Khan’s kin demanded to know who will own up his death. Khan resided in Ghatkopar and ran a belt shop. He was on his way towith his father, Shiraj Khan, when both came under the falling concrete chunks. Shiraj said he was walking a little behind Zahid and escaped with minor injuries, while his son’s head injuries turned fatal. “My son had two girls, one of whom is not even a yearold,” Shiraj said.Tapendra, a resident of Wadala, worked at a printing press near Metro Cinema in Marine Lines. His family, who came to know that he was among the dead from TV news, did rounds of several hospitals before finally locating his body at St George’s Hospital. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son.Mohan Kayangude, 55, was put on ventilator support and died late Thursday. He worked at a jewellery store in Zaveri Bazar and used the FoB every day to reach CSMT from where he took a train to his home in Thane. On Thursday, he was dropped on the street opposite CSMT by his employer Kirti Soni. “We even spoke to him when he was in hospital, but later the doctors told us that he succumbed,” Kayangude’s son Gaurav said.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta inspected the bridge. BMC sources said that prima facie, cross-welding on the structure had rusted, resulting in multiple slab collapses.
