The police took Sunita's body and her injured relatives to KEM Hospital and registered a case.Sunday's hit-and-run is a grim reminder of two similar past cases. In September 28, 2002, actor Salman Khan's Land Cruiser rammed into a bakery in Bandra, killing one person and injuring four sleeping on the steps. In December 2015, the Bombay high court acquitted Khan of all criminal charges for lack of substantial evidence, seven months after the sessions court held him guilty. He was driving drunk. In 2017, the sessions court convicted him and gave him six months' jail for causing death due to rash and negligent act. The same year, the HC, after taking suo motu cognizance of a 'lenient sentence' for a lesser charge, held him guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and enhanced his sentence to three years. In 2012, the SC upheld his sentence, which he served and was then released.
