City to stay rainless till mid-week

Since June 1, Santacruz has recorded 1,423.9 mm rains while Colaba has recorded 976.7 mm. The showers have helped clear out the city's pollution as the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Monday was 44, which is 'Very Good'. As per weather blog 'Vagaries of Weather', Mumbai is likely to see very little rains till Wednesday. "There can be a couple of showers, which could be brief but intense in some parts, with sunny periods in between. Some eastern outer townships and Lonavala/Khandala Ghat sections can get a couple of heavy showers," the blog read.

Even as Mumbai is witnessing subdued rains, a situation likely to continue till the middle of this week, weather observers claimed that rains could be back if conditions become favourable due to a formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Met officials said that though it is too early to predict, but a cyclonic circulation is likely to form in Bay of Bengal near Odisha by Wednesday. "A low pressure area can be created and once this moves on land it can bring in rains in and around several parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai," said an IMD official, adding, "Though temperatures have not risen, there was a spike in humidity levels on Monday." Private weather forecaster Skymet affirmed the formation of cyclonic circulation.
