Mumbai: Resident doctors call off strike till August 31

After the state government assured the resident doctors to look into their demands, their association called off a day's strike on August 8. On Wednesday late night, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) had a meeting with the Directorate of Medical Education (DMER) Director, Dr TP Lahane, and other officials after the government threatened to impose the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) Act on the resident doctors. As a solution to their problems, the state government's DMER agreed to credit pending stipend of Akola, Latur, and Ambejogai resident doctors this week. Further, according to the resident doctors, considering a possible outbreak of diseases post flood, the agitation is postponed till August 31. "We will go on strike again if no decision is taken in upcoming Cabinet meeting scheduled in 15 days.
