OPINION: Teach children not to be quiet

  • | Sunday | 18th August, 2019

I have come across several such incidents that take place in public spaces like schools, institutions, grounds and gardens. We need CCTV cameras in these spaces and also security guards, but more than that, importantly, we need to create awareness among children on these topics by speaking about it in homes as well as schools. In 60% cases of sexual assault, the children do not confide in anyone at all due to a lack of awareness or a feeling of shame. What children need to do is shout immediately when someone misbehaves with them and attract attention. —Geeta Sharma, Special Public Prosecutor at Sessions Court
