An attempt of suicide by two men by jumping on the safety net from the second floor of the Mantralaya was averted by the police on Wednesday. Arun Netore and Hemant Patil tried to press their demand for aid to non-aided divyang (disable children) schools. More than 300 staffers of a divyang school had scheduled meeting with the social justice minister Suresh Khade on Wednesday but the meeting could not take place. Hence out of frustration, these staffers started protesting against the government in Mantralaya. Netore and Patil jumped on the safety net of the Mantralaya to get the attention of the officials. The police then struggled to rescue them. Staffers in the building rushed to see the dramatic event. The police even detained many protesters. “We have been demanding grant for the last 15 years for these non-aided schools. But the government is not paying any attention. We have been teaching these disabled students but the salary is not paid to us. We have our families, without pay, how long we shall work,” said one of the protester requested anonymity. Another protester complained that the cabinet had approved grants to only three schools out of 300, two days back. “If they want to give the grant to disabled student schools, then it should be given to all schools. Why is government selective? We all are teaching disabled students only. We also came to know the granted schools are from Vidarbha region which is close to the minister. We want a probe in this whole matter,” said a protester. Khade, when contacted was not available for comment. Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant hit out at the BJP government saying, “Farmers are committing suicide, workers are thrown out of work, youth are not getting work. The incumbent government will not give justice to these people.”
