Maharashtra: Caught red-handed, cop threatens ACB officials with service pistol, flees with bribe money

Mumbai: A police sub-inspector in Raigad district of Maharashtra threatened the officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Maharashtra police with his service pistol and rammed his bike into them before fleeing the scene. The incident took place on Wednesday at around 11:30 AM in Raigad. The sub inspector was fleeing from the ACB officials because he had been caught red-handed accepting bribe.

Mumbai: A police sub-inspector in Raigad district of Maharashtra threatened the officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Maharashtra police with his service pistol and rammed his bike into them before fleeing the scene. The incident took place on Wednesday at around 11:30 AM in Raigad. The sub inspector was fleeing from the ACB officials because he had been caught red-handed accepting bribe.

According to ACB officials, a complainant had approached the Raigad district economic offences wing regarding an alleged demand of bribe by Sub-Inspector Ganesh Kandekar. The complainant said that the sub-inspector, who is posted at the Mangaon police station, had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to register a case on March 22.

As per the complaint, the ACB officials laid a trap and nabbed Sub Inspector Ganesh Kandekar accepting Rs 25,000 as part payment of the asked bribe. But when the ACB team tried to apprehend Ganesh Kandekar, he felt suspicious and try to flee the scene. The ACB team officials, a police inspector and a constable, approached the sub-inspector and identified themselves he allegedly tried to take out his service pistol.

When the police constable stopped Ganesh Kandekar from drawing out his gun, he rammed his bike into the constable. Ganesh Kandekar then fled the spot with the bribe money. The constable was left seriously injured in the incident. A case has been registered with the Raigad ACB and a manhunt has been launched to nab Sub-Inspector Ganesh Kandekar.
