When she was first offered the opportunity to visit the White house, she though it was a joke being played by her relatives whom she was visiting in the US. But soon she realized it was serious and the next moment she was shaking hands with the President. My cousin, Maneesh Goyal, was organizing a charity function and the President had agreed to back it. Excited about the meeting, Babita could not sleep for the entire night as she was too busy thinking about what she would do when she would meet Obama.

CHANDIGARH: How would you feel if you got a chance to visit the White House, before the newly elected Prime Minister? Awestruck! This is exactly how Babita Puri, a resident of sector 33 Chandigarh felt when she got a chance to meet Barack Obama during her recent trip to the United States of America. When she was first offered the opportunity to visit the White house, she though it was a joke being played by her relatives whom she was visiting in the US. But soon she realized it was serious and the next moment she was shaking hands with the President.

Her first reaction after the meeting was through the Facebook status- "Oh My God!! From Bathinda to White House! Meeting the President was such a memorable moment" Babita is settled in Chandigarh but originally belongs to Bathinda and is a director producer by profession. When she told him that she lives in Chandigarh he said that he had heard and knows about Chandigarh. "Visiting the White House as you would know is like a fantasy.

We have all seen pictures of the most important land mark in the US, and probably in the world but we never imagine visiting it. I mean as a tourist, I guess you can. But when I was told that I could go there on an official visit and get to meet and shake the President`s hand, I first thought this must be a joke.

The typical family joke played on visiting relatives! But when I got to know it was serious, I grabbed the opportunity. Who wouldn`t? My cousin, Maneesh Goyal, was organizing a charity function and the President had agreed to back it. So there I was all excited and ready to shake the most important hand in the world," she shares.

Excited about the meeting, Babita could not sleep for the entire night as she was too busy thinking about what she would do when she would meet Obama. "I couldn`t sleep the night before. So many things were going on in my mind.

What would I say to him? More importantly, what would I wear? I first thought I would wear a western outfit. But then I decided to go with a salwar kameez. After all, I was an Indian representing India in the US.

The president better meet an Indian woman wearing an Indian outfit! But, yes, it was a night I just kept tossing and turning. I was all excited and anxious," said Babita. She slipped into a dream the moment she entered the White house.

"I remember we all were standing there. Then suddenly he came in with his security. He started meeting everybody and for a moment I was all nervous and wondering what I was doing there.

When it was our turn to meet, my cousin had to virtually shake me and say, let`s go...

I walked in a daze up to the President and there I was in front of the most powerful man in the world. And he looked human and he smiled when he saw me!" "I shook hands with Obama and introduced myself. I told him my reason for the visit which included the promotion of my upcoming film.

He asked me about my film which I told him. He was surprised to know that my film was about an Olympic gold medalist. He did say Indian films were very popular across the world.

" Talking about the most memorable moment she said, "Well, my most memorable moment was when I told him that I met him before the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could and he smiled." The excitement of interacting with the US president was visible on her face even after 20 days of her meeting. .
