11 candidiates vying for each MA education seat

LUCKNOW: Education as a subject is the hot favourite of PG applicants at Lucknow University. There are 11 applications for one seat of MA in education. In LLM too, 11 applicants are vying one seat.

The last date for submission of applications to PG courses was July 18. Monday was the last date to submit fees. So far, there are 164 applicants for 15 seats in education, making it a much sought after course.

In terms of numbers, most-976-applications have come for LLB followed by 800 in MCom commerce, both regular and self-finance. As many as 594 applicants have opted to study MCom applied economics. According to university spokesperson Prof NK Pandey, "The charm to study education is due to the tremendous increase in the number of jobs.

Recruitment on at least a lakh teaching posts, both primary and secondary, is on". For other students from humanities, competition will be tough for subjects like political science, sociology, and economics. In MA sociology, there are four applications for one seat.

In MA economics, more than three applicants are competing for one seat. In MA political science, the applications are two and half times more than the seats. For MA in Hindi, the number of applicants is double the number of seats.

In MA English, 289 candidates have applied for 180 seats. Science students will have greater competition for admission to MSc botany and MSc physics. The number of applications in MSc botany is six times the number of total seats.

In MSc physics, five applicants are competing on one seat. The race in MSc chemistry and MSc mathematics is also not an easy. While in MSc chemistry the number of applicants is four times the seats, in MSc mathematics the number of applications is close to four times the seats.

Admission to 142 PG courses began on June 26. The admission process closed down on July 18. Of the total number of seats in any subject, 80% admissions in all courses will be done for candidates passing the graduate/qualifying examination from LU.

Remaining 20% admissions are open for candidates of other universities..
