While Shapoorji Palanji and Larsen & Toubro have been accorded the work for the Naigaon and NM Joshi Marg BDD chawls' redevelopment projects, two Chinese firms have shown interest in the Worli BDD chawl redevelopment. The pre-bid meeting for the Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment was held on Tuesday. The state government had floated a global tender for the same. Of the total 92 acres spread over BDD chawls at Sewri, Worli, NM Joshi Marg and Naigaon, the BDD chawl at Worli alone occupies the maximum area — 58 acres. SS Zende, CEO, Mhada said there were two bidders for the first two tenders, and that they were given the project after the competitive bidder won the bid. For the Worli redevelopment project, two Chinese firms have also shown interest in participating in the online bidding process, Zende said. The actual construction work for Naigaon and NM Joshi Marg BDD chawls' redevelopment started with the foundation-laying ceremony on Saturday. The project cost of both Naigaon and NM Joshi Marg projects is worth Rs 6,000 crore, while the Worli project could go up to 9,000 crore. The Sewri BDD chawl project could reach Rs 2,000 crore.
