more-in Mumbai: Mumbai University, which is facing flak for the unprecedented delay in declaring results, saw two important developments on Wednesday. Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has granted the leave sought by Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh. He has given the additional charge of the post of VC to Professor Devanand Shinde, the Vice Chancellor of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Mr. Shinde will serve as the acting VC during Mr. Deshmukh’s leave period. In the second development, the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university, appointed Professor Dhiren Patel, director of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), as the acting pro-vice-chancellor of the university. Mr. Patel will hold the post till all the results of the examinations held in March/April are declared or for a maximum period of three months, whichever is earlier. The university has already failed to meet the July 31 and August 5 deadlines set by the Governor to declare the results. The issue even rocked the State Assembly, with the Opposition alleging that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was being misled by Mr. Deshmukh. Mr. Fadnavis had said the government would look into the matter. The university has so far declared results of 300 of the 477 examinations conducted. The maximum number of results declared is 124 in the Arts stream, followed by 116 in Technology and 23 in Science. While 24 results have been announced in Management, only 13 results have been declared in Commerce. Not a single examination result has been declared in Law. Until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 10,421 answer sheets had been evaluated, while 8,532 had been moderated. Of the total 17,443,69 answer scripts, 15,44,041 have been evaluated. A total of 955 teachers were involved in the assessment.
