Amidst heavy rains and floods, when people are overlooking their skin and hair health, leading dermatologist shares some healthy skin and hair care tips.

Mumbai Monsoons have been terrible for the city. And just like 2005, the city is shut down and floods have brought life to a standstill. Though we cannot deny that’s it`s great to see the city coming together for each other and our strong Navy & Government working at their best.

Amidst all the hassle, we forget to pay attention to ourselves. After this horrendous flood and horrible time of rains in the dream-city Mumbai, Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj, leading Dermatologist of Delhi says- ‘one should take certain precautions which can help them preserve the glow on their faces and prevent hair fall in this terrible rainy season’.

Here are some healthy-skin and hair-care tips especially in floods or excess rain pour by Dr.Deepali Bhardwaj:

1.) Take bath immediately post rain. Washing your face with water containing potassium permanganate crystals is a good idea, which kills all the bacteria and germs you carry with the dirty water.

2.) Wash your clothes in chlorhexidine solution, Dettol, Savlon etc.

3.) Aftershave can be used as an alternative of antiseptic.

4.) One should keep small minor cuts open but cleanse them with drinking water, repeatedly.

5.) To avoid leptospirosis, take tab Doxycycline 200mg stat for adults who are drenched in rain or tab amoxicillin stat single dosage.

6.) During rains don`t think that you don’t need sunscreen instead ensure a sun block of SPF 20 plus and apply it at-least 10-15 minutes before leaving.  Due to moisture in the weather, we may feel less thirsty but don’t forget to hydrate yourself as it may lead to dehydration, just like summers. So for adults drinking 4-5 liters daily is a must in rains too!

7.) Eat fruits, especially yellow colour food items which boost skin immunity.

8.) People suffering from diabetes and poor body immunity must take extra care during monsoons even if they are not exposed to rains. They should use antifungal powders in finger web spaces, underarms and under Breast areas. Even for mild wounds, they should use antiseptic lotion.

9.) People can boost their immunity by increasing B complex and multi vitamins intake for 2 weeks.

Last but not the least we need to support each other and stay strong. The whole country is praying for Mumbai`s health and is hoping it soon recovers from the catastrophic rains.
