Over 5.16 lakh taxpayers have completed the process by October 10. (Express File) Over 5.16 lakh taxpayers have completed the process by October 10. (Express File) OVER 75 per cent of taxpayers in the state have filed their Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns for the month of July, according to official figures. Of the 6,82,541 taxpayers liable to file their GSTR-1, 75.73 per cent or over 5.16 lakh have completed the process by the end of the extended deadline of October 10. The central government had earlier extended the deadline by two months. The GSTR-1 is the monthly return to be filed by every registered dealer detailing sales for the month. The form has 13 sections. Over 84 per cent of taxpayers have filed their GSTR-3B — a mandatory return for six months starting July till December — for the month of July. Over 7.6 lakh of the 9.01 lakh eligible persons have completed the forms. For August, the number, however, remains low at 65 per cent. State GST Commissioner Rajeev Jalota told The Indian Express that the department has downloaded all the returns. “We will conduct a detailed analysis of the returns filed. We are particularly looking at the returns from a revenue point of view.” “We will check if the regular dealers, who usually filed the returns, have done so. In case of smaller dealers, we need to analyse if there is a gap. Once the analysis is over, based on the results, we will approach the ones who are still struggling to make the transition,” said Jalota. According to him, during the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime, too, the department saw around 20 per cent defaulters after the deadline. Several more filed their returns later he said. “The message is now out that the defaulters will have to pay a fine of Rs 100 a day. That will encourage more dealers to file their returns at the earliest,” said Jalota, adding that the fine would not be applicable for July returns. More workshops for smaller dealers are in the pipeline, he said. For all the latest Cities News, download Indian Express App
