PU classes conducted in two shifts at Maharaja's College

MYSURU: Ongoing renovation at the iconic Maharaja's High School & Pre-university College has forced the authorities at the college to schedule PU classes in two shits - one in the morning and the other in the noon and evening. However, with the number of available classes reduced to 15, the authorities have been left with no option but to divide the class hours. But the agencies concerned must ensure that conducting classes in two shifts does not go on for a long time," he said. "Once the renovation is complete, all classes will be held as per schedule," said a college official.Meanwhile, parents and students have urged the PU department to expedite the renovation process. Demand for seats at the college is very high, with many toppers too vying to get admission.

While classes are held for science students between 8am and 12pm in the first shift, they are scheduled from 12pm to 5pm in the second one for commerce and arts students.College authorities state that, cutting across streams, there were 869 students in II PUC, while 993 had been admitted to I PUC - with the possibility of the number breaching the 1,000 mark in the coming days, following the announcement of the SSLC supplementary examination results. Demand for seats at the college is very high, with many toppers too vying to get admission. However, renovation at the college has resulted in the number of classrooms getting reduced, owing to which the authorities have been forced to divide classes in two shifts.Sources in the college said that there were as many as 26 sections at the college, besides four laboratories. However, with the number of available classes reduced to 15, the authorities have been left with no option but to divide the class hours. "Once the renovation is complete, all classes will be held as per schedule," said a college official.Meanwhile, parents and students have urged the PU department to expedite the renovation process. Damodaran , a resident, said that infrastructure-related woes were not new to the college. "One visit to the college is enough to make one feel that a lot needs to be done. But, due to the highly affordable fee structure, and good faculty, there is a huge demand for seats. But the agencies concerned must ensure that conducting classes in two shifts does not go on for a long time," he said.
