Mysuru: The consequences of the alliance between the JD(S) and the Congress in the assembly are now percolating to the lower levels of administration, with changes likely in the local district administration and urban local bodies. The JD(S), which is in an alliance with the BJP in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) council and the zilla panchayat, is expected to end the partnership, months before the MCC heads to the polls.Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan on Saturday held an emergency meeting with Congress and JD(S) members of the Mysuru ZP at the Jaladarshini Guest House. The meeting was scheduled ahead of the elections to the standing committees of the ZP called by the panchayat president Nayeema Sultana later in the day.Although those who participated in the meeting claimed that it was convened to discuss the elections to the ZP standing committees, the absence of a majority of the representatives in the 49-member body, hinted at the possibility of the BJP-JD(S) partnership in the local administrative bodies coming to a premature end.With a mere 12 members attending the ZP meeting convened by Sultana on Saturday, she had no option but to adjourn owing to a lack of quorum. Sultana announced that the next meeting would be convened in ten days. While Congress is the single largest party in the ZP with 22 seats, JD(S) has 18 and BJP eight. Dayanandamurthy HS is the solitary Independent in the Mysuru ZP.Dhruvanarayan said that tourism minister Sa Ra Mahesh has spoken to him, and expressed his wish to stitch an alliance with the Congress in the ZP. “I will discuss the proposition with former chief minister Siddaramaiah , higher education minister GT Devegowda and other senior leaders of the district before taking a decision on an alliance with the JD(S) in the ZP,” said Dhruvanarayan.However, sources close to the MP said that he had been asked to speak to JD(S) leaders in Mysuru about a possible alliance.MP unhappy with Cauvery boardOn the Centre’s decision to constitute the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, Dhruvanarayan said that the move had not pleased him. “I will discuss the issue with the irrigation minister,” he said.
