Mysuru: Three elephants which were stuck in a farm pond in Kanakunduru village in Chamarajanagar district on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border were rescued on Saturday noon with the help of an earthmoving equipment.The herd of elephants is said to have fallen into the pond while trying to drink water in the wee hours of Saturday. On seeing the elephants struggling to come out of the pond, the villagers alerted the forest authorities who rushed to the spot with the equipment. They created a small pathway for the elephants to climb their way out of the pond.“While drinking water, they slipped and fell into the pond,” said Kanneshwar, a local.Though the elephants tried to come out, they could not because of the soft soil which was also slippery. Feeling helpless, they started trumpeting, after which a large number of villagers gathered and summoned the forest authorities.The authorities found the bed of the water body slippery due to downpour. They later brought the earthmover to clear slush and make a pathway which helped the elephants climb up. The rescued elephants later went into a nearby forest.
