Permanent solution for water woes of Mysuru city

Mysuru: As expected, Mysuru received a fair share in the state budget with chief minister H D Kumaraswamy announcing budgetary allocation for the long-pending Hale Unduwadi drinking water project.This project aims at getting Cauvery water from the KRS backwaters, unlike now when water is being lifted from canals. The proposed hospital is expected to lessen the burden off the KR Hospital. The silk cocoon market is one of the long-pending demands of the farmers who are into sericulture. This project will be implemented in Hale Unduwadi village on the outskirts of the city.Besides the long-pending drinking water project, the city also got several other projects including an ICB and IC chip manufacturing unit, a silk cocoon market at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore and a frozen semen distribution centre. The chip manufacturing unit is expected to create more jobs.

The project is designed to take care of Mysuru’s water needs for a century.In his budget speech, HDK announced that in order to permanently eradicate drinking water problem of Mysuru and 92 villages, this scheme will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.According to sources, once the project is implemented, the city and its neighboring villages will get additional 300 MLD water from Cauvery. This project will be implemented in Hale Unduwadi village on the outskirts of the city.Besides the long-pending drinking water project, the city also got several other projects including an ICB and IC chip manufacturing unit, a silk cocoon market at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore and a frozen semen distribution centre. The chip manufacturing unit is expected to create more jobs. The silk cocoon market is one of the long-pending demands of the farmers who are into sericulture. The frozen semen distribution centre is expected to help milk producers from the district and neighboring Mandya, and Chamarajanagar districts.Super-specialty hospitalThe chief minister also proposed a new super-specialty hospital in the city to provide tertiary health services relating to heart, cancer and other diseases. It can be recalled that recently a branch of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology was inaugurated while the work on the branch of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology is under progress. The proposed hospital is expected to lessen the burden off the KR Hospital.
