Massive campaign launched to detect & treat tuberculosis

Each team will visit these households, create awareness on TB and impart information about symptoms of tuberculosis like prolonged and persistent cough, she stated.During the campaign, workers will identify presumptive signs of TB. Each team comprises an officer/staff from the department of health and family welfare or workers form NGOs accompanied by ASHA workers (Accredited Social Health Activists).

MYSURU: The health and family welfare department has launched a campaign to test and diagnose tuberculosis The 11-day campaign which was launched on Monday will concentrate on health awareness, screening, diagnosis and treatment of TB in Mysuru district.As a part of the campaign, the health staff will visit households in urban, rural and tribal areas of the district. To test and diagnose tuberculosis, the department has deployed 1,270 teams which will visit 50 households every day. Each team comprises an officer/staff from the department of health and family welfare or workers form NGOs accompanied by ASHA workers (Accredited Social Health Activists). Altogether 2,540 workers are on a mission to test and diagnose the rate of TB in Mysuru.Speaking to TOI, district TB officer Suvarna said that the department has identified 5,83,358 high-risk population and 770 high-risk groups in urban rural and tribal sections of the district. Each team will visit these households, create awareness on TB and impart information about symptoms of tuberculosis like prolonged and persistent cough, she stated.During the campaign, workers will identify presumptive signs of TB. A thorough investigation of the individual will be done. Campaign workers are also supposed to enter their findings online. The suspected individual will be sent to the respective primary health centre for further treatment, she added.In Shivamogga, health workers will visit an estimated 48 000 houses in July. DHO Shankarappa said that 450 teams have been formed.
