SHIVAMOGGA/MYSURU: After a 24-hour search operation, the body of a girl who was washed away in a stream near Agumbe was found on Tuesday after noon.Ashika, 14, a Class 9 student of Guddekeri Govt High School and resident of Dodlimane, had met the watery grave while crossing the stream on Monday afternoon.She was washed away after she slipped from the makeshift footbridge. Heavy rain and rising water levels in the stream hampered search operations, which were launched soon after the incident.On Tuesday noon, the body was traced 1km away from where she slipped. We submitted memoranda to several government departments about the crumbling bridge. Now, the entire administrative machinery has landed in the village. The tragedy could have been avoided had they acted on our petitions early,” they said.
