MYSURU: Heavy rain that lashed Mysuru city during the predawn hours not just brought misery to residents and motorists, but also left a neglected Mysuru City Corporation building damaged, in Ramakrishnanagar on Monday. Rain lashed Mysuru city for nearly four hours from 4am. The MCC control room received complaints like overflowing drainage and fallen and hanging tree branches.The Indian Meteorological Department Mysuru has predicted two more spells of rain and thundershowers till September 28. The rear wall was built on the edge of an open drain fortification that collapsed, leading to destruction of the building. Water flooded houses in low-lying areas and covered roads due to blocked storm water drains.

Rain lashed Mysuru city for nearly four hours from 4am. District minister GT Devegowda visited parts of Hinkal that was worst affected by Monday’s rain. Water flooded houses in low-lying areas and covered roads due to blocked storm water drains. Fire and Emergency services personnel were summoned to remove water from a building near Nanneshwar temple in Hinkal.Meanwhile, the wall of a building being used as a service centre for libraries in Vidyaranyapuram, collapsed. The rear wall was built on the edge of an open drain fortification that collapsed, leading to destruction of the building. A library official claimed that though it was brought to the notice of MCC’s zonal officers to repair the building two months ago, they had neglected it. The wall had developed cracks and was on the verge of collapse.We had shifted books and stocks to the other part of the rooms. There is no loss of library property. We moved to another building nearby, the official said.Residents of a house in Rajivnagar moved out of their house after underground drainage water overflowed from the UGD line and dirty water covered the house, located in a low-lying area. The MCC control room received complaints like overflowing drainage and fallen and hanging tree branches.The Indian Meteorological Department Mysuru has predicted two more spells of rain and thundershowers till September 28.
