MYSURU: In a huge relief to thousands of students, the state government directed the department of public instruction (DPI) to put on hold the annual transfer process of primary, secondary and high school teachers till the next order.According to sources, the order was issued following complaints from parents and students that transfer of teachers in the middle of the academic year creates a lot of problems for them. DPI commissioner PC Jaffer told TOI that a direction had been issued to stop the transfer process as of now.A source in DPI said the transfer process may be stopped till the end of this academic year, keeping in mind the interests of students and academic activities in schools. The decision was taken on Sunday, following large scale complaints from teachers, academicians and the student fraternity, over the abnormal delay.An officer from the DPI told TOI that as of now, there is no clarity on when the transfer process will be resumed. “There is a possibility that transfers will be postponed till the end of the academic year,” he said.“On Sunday, the transfer process was stopped citing technical issues, especially software glitches. There is no possibility of restarting the process, at least till December. There is pressure from teachers residing in cities against moving them to rural areas. All this forced the state government to put the transfer process on hold,” explained a senior officer.Basavaraj Gurikar of the state primary teachers’ association denied that the transfer process had been stalled for a year.“It will resume in the next 15-20 days. Teachers seeking a transfer need not worry,” he said. “It was stopped on Sunday due to some technical glitches in the transfer process. There is no truth in media reports that the CM stopped the process for a year,” he said.
