Now Gangubai music varsityrsquos website crashes

“I was browsing the university website to find more information about the courses it offered. It is strange that a state university cannot maintain its website,” said Roshni, a researcher from Bengaluru.Murali Kumar, a city-based dancer, stated that, besides Indians, many foreigners interested in Indian music and dance visited the website. “The varsity has been without a full-time VC for the past few months, and students are openly protesting against the management. On the other hand, the varsity officials have assured students to look into the problem.Those keen on gaining admission to the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were dismayed to find that the website was down. This is not the way in which a premier music university being run under the name of a legendary singer should be run,” said Kumar.Besides students, even officials in the Karnataka higher education department are growing anxious about the mounting problems at the music varsity .

Mysuru: Although it was established in order to provide an avenue for youngsters artistically inclined to further their goals in an academic setting, the Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University in the city has been in the news mostly for the wrong reasons for the past few months. There were issues with the poor infrastructure at the varsity, followed by a controversy that followed close on the heels of Sarvamangala Shankar demitting the office of the vice-chancellor of the varsity and to cap them all, a tug-of-war between the varsity management and the students. Consequently, these gnawing issues have left a bulk of the student body a worried lot, who are now contemplating their futures at the university.Now, the students are grappling with another problem – the university website has reportedly crashed, creating confusion for those seeking admission to its courses. On the other hand, the varsity officials have assured students to look into the problem.Those keen on gaining admission to the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were dismayed to find that the website was down. “I was browsing the university website to find more information about the courses it offered. But I found that it was not working. It is strange that a state university cannot maintain its website,” said Roshni, a researcher from Bengaluru.Murali Kumar, a city-based dancer, stated that, besides Indians, many foreigners interested in Indian music and dance visited the website. “The varsity’s social media pages have not been updated since 2013. This is not the way in which a premier music university being run under the name of a legendary singer should be run,” said Kumar.Besides students, even officials in the Karnataka higher education department are growing anxious about the mounting problems at the music varsity . “The varsity has been without a full-time VC for the past few months, and students are openly protesting against the management. The VC search committee will meet on November 22. Unfortunately, there are not many candidates for the post. We will look to resolve all the problems,” said an official.University officials told TOI that they had taken note of the website’s problem, and would look into it soon.
