MYSURU: Former Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde said there is rampant corruption in all the three pillars of democracy and the media which is considered as the fourth estate.He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Students’ role in preventing corruption in India’ organised by Vidyavardhaka Law College on Saturday.“We hear corruption in the three pillars of democracy – legislature, executive and judiciary – and the media which is considered as the fourth pillar. While around Rs 10-crore public money was wasted to hold the session, but no development issues were discussed. It is a tragedy,” he lamented.He appealed to the youth to work hard in their respective fields to earn money and lead a corruption-free life. “Youth should also make an effort to change the society,” he said. There are examples of politicians and officers involved in corruption and amassing huge wealth through illegal means,” he said.Hegde said crores of public money is spent on holding discussions by elected representatives in parliament and state assemblies.“In 2016 Belagavi session, not a single subject was discussed during the 14-day meeting.
