Expert opinion will be sought while implementing Disneyland project, says Kumaraswamy

Mandya: Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said that opinion of technicians, engineers and irrigation experts will be taken into account while implementing the Disneyland project at the KRS dam site. KRRS activists were protesting at the programme venue in connection with farmers’ issues and the Disneyland project. “We are conscious about the safety of KRS reservoir while implementing the Rs 2,000 crore project. The state government will consult and consider the opinion of experts before going ahead with the project,” the CM said.Can’t waive farm loan at onceKumaraswamy said he cannot waive nearly 2.48 lakh crore farm loan in one go as such huge money cannot be remitted to the state’s exchequer overnight. If this project is implemented, it will generate nearly 50,000 jobs for youths.

People should not fall prey to rumours that the project will pose a threat to the reservoir, he added.Addressing the gathering at Dudda village after inaugurating various development projects, Kumaraswamy said that Disneyland will boost tourism in Mysuru region. “We are conscious about the safety of KRS reservoir while implementing the Rs 2,000 crore project. If this project is implemented, it will generate nearly 50,000 jobs for youths. It will be done in a phased manner. I don’t bother about the opposition’s criticism in this matter,” Kumaraswamy said.Referring the suicide of farmer Jayakumar, who allegedly ended his life leaving a suicide note addressed to him, Kumaraswamy alleged that farmer leaders are instigating farmers to commit suicide to tarnish his image. “Jayakumar was said to be suffering from throat cancer. He may have been ill-advised by farmer leaders that if he committed suicide timed with my visit to Mandya district, his family members will get monetary relief. I am not the culprit. I am always ready to serve farmers,” Kumaraswamy said.Meanwhile, district minister C S Puttaraju visited the village and promised Rs 5 lakh compensation to the the bereaved family members.JD(S) members and Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha (KRRS) activists came to blows in the presence of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy at the VC Farm on Friday. KRRS activists were protesting at the programme venue in connection with farmers’ issues and the Disneyland project. As they were ready to wave black flags to the CM, JD(S) workers opposed their move. The situation heated up as both teams indulged in fist-fighting at the venue. Police immediately arrested KRRS activists anticipating the situation getting out of hand.
