At least 22 feared dead as bus plunges into canal in Mandya

MANDYA: At least 24 passengers are feared dead after a bus plunged into a canal in Mandya district of Karnataka on Saturday.The incident happened at VC canal of the Cauvery river in Kanaganamaradi village of the Pandavapura taluk. Most of the deceased are school students.According to the locals, the bus plunged in the canal around 12.25 pm. The locals who saw the bus plunging in the canal water rushed to rescue the passengers.A boy who jumped out of the bus is the only survivor. "There is no clarity on the number of deaths as all those who were inside the bus have died. Only the surviving boy can give us more details.

But he is now in the state of shock," said police.Rescuers searching for bodies at the accident spot.Senior police officers and the personnel from the fire and emergency services have rushed to the spot.Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy , who is also in Mandya, is likely to visit the accident spot soon.
