BS Yeddyurappa mum on resort politics; lashes out at govt for poor response to drought

MYSURU: Former chief minister and president of the BJP Karnataka unit BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday declined to comment on the party’s attempt to form the government in Karnataka. Dubbing his continuity as a minister a ‘shame’, Yeddyurappa said, “Bribe allegedly meant to be delivered to Shetty was seized by cops, but he continues to stay in the cabinet. If the allegations against him are proven false, the CM can re-induct him to the cabinet.”Expressing disappointment with the state government’s response to drought in the state, Yeddyurappa said, “No new schemes have been announced to provide relief to people in drought-affected regions across the state. He must resign. During the political drama that unfolded for more than a week, the 104 BJP MLAs, and a handful of Congress legislators had stayed at resorts in different states as the saffron party tried to gather the numbers for a simple majority in the assembly.

During the political drama that unfolded for more than a week, the 104 BJP MLAs, and a handful of Congress legislators had stayed at resorts in different states as the saffron party tried to gather the numbers for a simple majority in the assembly. However, Yeddyurappa clarified that all the MLAs of the party had returned from the resort, and were back in the state.The former CM, who was in Chamarajanagar to inspect the condition of drought-affected areas in the district, lashed out at the state government for persisting with backward classes minister C Puttaranga Shetty despite cash having been seized from his office in the Vidhana Soudha. Dubbing his continuity as a minister a ‘shame’, Yeddyurappa said, “Bribe allegedly meant to be delivered to Shetty was seized by cops, but he continues to stay in the cabinet. He must resign. If the allegations against him are proven false, the CM can re-induct him to the cabinet.”Expressing disappointment with the state government’s response to drought in the state, Yeddyurappa said, “No new schemes have been announced to provide relief to people in drought-affected regions across the state. In Chamarajanagar, money released for drought-related projects is not utilised properly.”Citing the spread of food-and-mouth disease and the withering coconut trees as indicators of the severity of the situation, he added, “Loans that farmers have taken from nationalised banks are yet to be waived. The state government is doing nothing for farmers.”Yeddyurappa interacted with peasants in Badanaguppe and Muttige villages in the district, who expressed the difficulties they were facing because of drought.Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa in Shivamogga felicitated volunteers who participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of Adhi Jagadguru Shri Shivarathrishwata Shivayogi of Suttur Mutt.
