New KEA chief outlines plans for exhibition grounds

Mysuru: Outlining his plans for the Dasara Exhibition Grounds, the newly appointed chairman of the Karnataka Exhibition Authority KEA ), JD(S) leader Abdul Azeez on Sunday said that he was keen to tap into the tourism potential of the grounds opposite the Mysore Palace by introducing more amusement activities including developing a water theme park. We also have plans to set up more shops and even lease grounds for private ceremonies. The other big plan is to make the summer camp held at the grounds for kids a more attractive fare. Go-Karting is a hugely popular sport among adolescents and adults alike, and would be a huge attraction during the Naada Habba celebrations, he added.

Mysuru: Outlining his plans for the Dasara Exhibition Grounds, the newly appointed chairman of the Karnataka Exhibition Authority KEA ), JD(S) leader Abdul Azeez on Sunday said that he was keen to tap into the tourism potential of the grounds opposite the Mysore Palace by introducing more amusement activities including developing a water theme park. “The move, besides drawing more tourists, will generate revenue for the government,” Azeez said.Azeez, more popular among the residents of the city as Abdullah, said that the grounds remained open for just 90 days during and after Dasara celebrations, and called for greater utilisation of the space. “I have held discussions with tourism minister SR Mahesh, and our authorities will chalk out various projects to improve the grounds, and transform it into a crowd-puller throughout the year,” Abdullah told TOI.Pointing to the popularity of the amusement park in Ooty, the JD(S) leader added, “If we have something along those lines in our own backyard, we will attract more tourists. We also have plans to set up more shops and even lease grounds for private ceremonies. We are also keen to turn the Dasara Exhibition Grounds into the favoured venue for all expos. The other big plan is to make the summer camp held at the grounds for kids a more attractive fare. There are also plans to develop a swimming pool and water games.”On his plans to make the Dasara Exhibition a more entertaining affair, Abdullah said that landscaping would be given more attention, and experts from across the country would be consulted and roped in to plan the event.Go-Karting at Dasara ExhibitionThe new KEA chief Abdul Azeez said that he would study if setting up a Go-Karting track during the Dasara celebrations would be feasible. Go-Karting is a hugely popular sport among adolescents and adults alike, and would be a huge attraction during the Naada Habba celebrations, he added.
