Mysuru: BJP workers in Hassan and Chamarajanagar are exuberant after the entry of two former Congress leaders who are now their candidates from the two constituences, considered to be JD(S) and Congress bastions. It has given wings to their dreams of winning the two constituencies and the workers are pinning their hopes on a Modi wave as well, apart from the charisma of the two candidates.Hassan BJP candidate A Manju and Chamarajanagar’s candidate V Srinivas Prasad were both Cogressmen. Prasad, a five-time MP from Chamarajanagar, quit Congress in 2016 and joined BJP in 2017 while Manju, who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election on Congress ticket against JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda and came second with 4.09 lakh votes, quit BJP a week ago after Deve Gowda vacated the seat to his grandson Prajwal Revanna. Though JD(S) and Congress had together formed the government, Manju had declared that if anyone other than Deve Gowda contest from Hassan, he would oppose it.BJP MLA from Hassan, Preetham J Gowda, and Chamarajanagar’s BJP district president K R Mallikarjunappa, though admitted that their prospects of gaining control over the district has brightened after senior leaders A Manju and Srinivas Prasad threw their hats into the ring, they’re not ready to give credit to them.Preetham claimed that BJP is helping Manju to take on the dynastics politics more than any benefit to the party. The trend is such that BJP has a fair chance to win the election because of Modi charisma. “We’re consolidating anti-JD(S) chunk and workers are trying to capitalise on the situation. Since Manju has a political face in the district, definitely it will a make difference in this Lok Sabha election,” he said.Mallikarjunappa didn’t deny that Srinivas’s entry to active politics has brought more strength to the party in Chamarajanagar as BJP has never won an election here. “This is more chance for us in this election because of PM Narendra Modi’s welfare programmes. Our state party chief BS Yeddyurappa too have helped the district to grow. With strong workforce at the grass-roots level, we’re quite confident of romping home,” he stated.
