Drop amendments to Universities Act, Chandrashekar tells state govt

"Admitting that the proposed amendments were meant to curb corrupt practices in state universities, Chandrashekar, however, expressed his doubts over centralisation of powers solving the problem. "Chandrashekar added that the proposed amendments would subsequently lead to the creation of a recruitment cell, construction cell, etc. "The recruitment cell will be headed by a state government nominee with two former VCs and incumbent VC as the members. According to the new bill, the Hampi Kannada university will be brought under the ambit of the Universities Act.
