Lit fest lover spreads message on bike

"I have great love for Kannada language and literature. Even though I work in a factory, I have written 25 books in Kannada, which include novels and poems, during my leisure time. He named his bike as 'Sahitya Theru'.Hugar left his village on November 17 and travelled through Vijayapura, Koppal, Ballari, Tumakuru and Mandya districts before reaching Mysuru on Sunday evening. Mysuru: A 36-year-old man from the land of Basavanna has travelled all the way to Mysuru on bike, creating awareness about Kannada language and the literature festival.Bheemaraya Hugar, who hails from Huvina Hipparagi in Basavana Bagewadi taluk in Vijayapura district, works in an incense stick factory and has reached Mysuru to attend the 83rd edition of Kannada Sahitya Sammelana Hugar's immense love and passion for the language is evident from the fact that he has not missed the event from the last five years.With the meagre amount he saved from his salary, Hugar customized his two-wheeler with messages on the importance of Kannada language and the colours of the state flag. I have taken part in the last five editions of the literary festival and made a small contribution to the language and literature by creating awareness among the people during my journey," Hugar told TOI.Hugar has also received a letter of appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his books on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan last year.Hugar on Sunday was welcomed by Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Y D Rajanna, who expressed his delight to welcome the literature lover to the festival.A stall will be erected by him at the sammelana venue under the banner 'Neelavarna Prakashana' where Kananda literary books of noted writers along with his own works will be up for sale.
