NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Thursday rejected educationist Deepak Bajaj’s bail plea on medical grounds for trying to delay judicial proceedings, even though Government Medical College and Hospital doctors attested to his ill health. Bajaj was, however, allowed to take private treatment at Gandhi Hospital on Wardha Road at his own expense.Justice Sunil Shukre rejected his petition after observing that Bajaj had made attempts to delay the judicial proceedings. But the judge acknowledged the seriousness of his medical condition and allowed treatment at the hospital as suggested by senior counsel Subodh Dharmadhikari , who appeared for Bajaj.A medical report submitted by Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) showed that Bajaj’s health was serious, and better health care was required before it deteriorates further. The accused has been discharged from GMCH based on sufficient control on blood pressure and blood sugar levels.The city educationist was accused of having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, and misusing his position as principal of Mahatma Gandhi Centennial School. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) booked him and wife Veena under Prevention of Corruption Act, while Jaripatka Police booked them under IPC.
