80 exam section staffers issued show cause notices for not coming on time

There was no problem in the system at all. “I presented the entire recorded data from March 1 to 14 before the VC. “How can there be a problem only while swiping in,” Khaty asked. He said the VC was informed that certain employees were resorting to malpractices by marking their in-time manually in the register but using the biometric while leaving. We had notice that these employees were coming an hour late yet making entry of on time, that is, 10 am,” he said.Khaty added that following three consecutive late marks, a day’s leave was deducted from such employees which led to the ‘discontent’.Following the VC’s directives and to discipline the employees, Khaty implemented the biometric attendance system at exam section. Often, students and parents visiting the section had complained about the late arrival of officials. After the biometric system was installed, the habitual late-comers had started complaining that it was taking five-10 minutes to read the thumb impression and iris scan.Khaty had also become particular about staff’s attendance after Janmach's surprise visit exposed the latecomers last year.

Nagpur: A big fight has erupted between the director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation Neeraj Khaty and some Class III and IV employees at the exam section after he pulled them up for reporting late to work and deducting their leave, which probably happened for the first time at Nagpur University.Last week, the tussle reached vice chancellor SP Kane’s doors when around 80 employees were served show cause notices by Khaty.A delegation of the employees, mainly lower division clerks, complained before Kane that Khaty has been allegedly “unfair” to them and there was discontent against him. They claimed the biometric system was “not working properly” and therefore they were unable to mark their attendance. On Tuesday, the employees led by confidential section clerk Rajendra Pathak, who was nominated to the Senate by VC, had handed over Khaty a letter expressing their discord with his decision to penalize them for late coming.Khaty told the VC that the complaints made against him were false. “How can there be a problem only while swiping in,” Khaty asked. He said the VC was informed that certain employees were resorting to malpractices by marking their in-time manually in the register but using the biometric while leaving. “I presented the entire recorded data from March 1 to 14 before the VC. TOI had reported how the exam section wore a deserted look at 10 am while the office time was 9.45am when Janmanch reached exam section.NU officials said the VC has asked Pathak to monitor the biometric and submit a report after 15 days.Khaty said show cause notice to 55 employees were withdrawn after they apologized and explained that they were forced to sign on the complaint letter.
