Nagpur: Sustained efforts will be made to help students acquire various skills in clay modelling so that they could carry forward not only the rich tradition of Indian sculptures but also earn money for their creative works, said Chandrakant Chakole, a noted artist, on Wednesday.Interacting with the participants of ‘Kalasangam’, a five-day workshop organized by South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) and Chandra Arts at Nilkamal Sabhagruh, Chakole gave elementary information about sculptures and the materials required for them.The workshop will be held in two batches, one for children in the morning and another for adults in the evening. The participants will be taught how to make cartoon masks, ‘Aladdin ka chirag’ and Harappan era ornaments. Chakole will also teach jute art, carving on pots, bronze effect painting, contemporary sculptures, Rajasthani masks and mural art forms from clay.Gopal Betawar, programme officer of SCZCC said, “Through this workshop, we want to encourage potters, their traditional art and contemporary designs and help they add value to their works.”Participants will get an art kit which will include clay and whitening powder, terracotta paste, acrylic paints and brushes, costing Rs600. On the last day of the workshop, artefacts of the participants will be put on display.(Reporting by Tejas Mundhada)
