‘Awareness is the key to prevent thalassemia’

Nagpur: To felicitate the patients suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell and to bring them together, Rughwani Child Care Centre had organized a programme at their premises, Jaripatka, on Sunday. By doing this, one can stay safe from such diseases.”Dr Rughwani said, “Such events bring awareness about the rare diseases among common people. The patients were accompanied by their parents.Dr Vinky Rughwani, in his opening speech, made the audience aware about the diseases and discussed the measures of prevention. Amruta Fadnavis and Dr Virendra Kukreja were invited as the special guests.

All the patients were felicitated and they cited an example for many others to fight the obstacles in life with grace.Patient Kumar Bhure gave an inspiring speech about the struggles in his life.Amruta Fadnavis said, “Instead of matching kundalis before marriage, the couples should get their blood samples diagnosed and matched. By doing this, one can stay safe from such diseases.”Dr Rughwani said, “Such events bring awareness about the rare diseases among common people. Prevention is better than cure. There is need to spread awareness among newly married couples so that they get themselves properly examined before starting a family,” he said.He has been working hard to provide free treatment to the children suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell and has helped around 450 patients till now.(Reporting by Sakshi Bartwal)
