HC refers ‘abusive’ man to mental hospital

He similarly labelled serious charges against the high court judges accusing them of turning into land mafia.On Monday, Mirza pointed out that Gangwani seems to be depressed and mentally ill and he should be first referred an expert before continuation of proceedings against him.Earlier also, the respondent faced a similar criminal contempt, but was shown leniency upon his written apology.

Nagpur: In a unique order, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Monday, directed the Jaripatka Police station to refer a man to mental hospital to test whether he was mentally fit.A division bench comprising justices Pradip Deshmukh and Murlidhar Giratkar also asked the police to take certification of his mental condition and submit a report in the court by July 30.The court’s stringent directives came while hearing a criminal contempt reference filed by principal and sessions judge VD Dongre against Brijlal Gangwani, a resident of Ring Road, who is accused of repeatedly using unparliamentarily language and also making wild and scandalous allegations against the judges.The court had taken cognisance of Dongre’s letter about Gangwani using abusive language and had appointed Firdos Mirza as amicus curiae to plead the case.
