Nagpur: A nice blend of good old music and few good singers recreated a near-perfect musical evening at Mor Hindi Bhavan on Saturday. The event was organized by Swaranjali Group. At the outset, the organizing committee paid tributes to Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by observing a two-minute silence. The evening was lit up with songs like ‘Dil to dil hai’ by Jaya Dhabekar, ‘Tumhi mere mandir, tumhi meri puja’ by Vidya Manwatkar, ‘Tujse naraz nahi zindagi’ by Vaishali Gaorkar which took the enthused audience down the memory lane. But what delighted the audience the most of the song selection. Beautiful songs like ‘Chala jata hu’, ‘Main shayar to nahi’, ‘Kuchh na kaho’ and ‘Ek din bik jayega’ were on the list. However, there was a welcome deviation in the form of a newage song ‘Mohe rang do lal’ from ‘Bajirao Mastani’ sung by Ganorkar. Solo songs like ‘Aasman pe hai khuda’ by Sanjay Bidyanta, ‘O hansini’ by Jayant Umredkar, ‘Kitna haseen chehra’ by TK Balkrishna, had a great impact on the mood of the audience.Raising the standard for the evening came in the duet songs ‘Na jane kaha the tum’ by Jaya Dhabekar and Sanjay Bidyanta, ‘Dil ki nazar se’ by Padmakar Mhaske and Vandana Umredkar’, ‘Huzur is kadar bhi na itrake chaliye’ by Bidyanta and Balkrishna.Balkrishna after finishing his duet with Bidyanta told about the lovely memories with his childhood friend Bidyanta and dedicated him a song ‘Zinda rahe dostana humara’ from the movie ‘Dostana’ and also thanked him for joining the band on stage.Host Uttara Kale articulately explained the story behind the making of each song. The programme concluded with a duet show by Ganorkar and Mhaske on the song ‘Sawan ka mahina’. The singers were supported by Suarabh Kiredkar (on synthesizer), Aniket Datekar (tabla) and Mahendar Kumar (octopad).(Reporting by Chaitanya Sabbineni)
