Nagpur: MSEDCL regional director Bhalchandra Khandait seems to have lost faith in his officers. Many cases have come to light where meter readers informed that a particular consumer is pilfering power. However, the regular staffers who went to the spot reported there was no power theft.Khandait has ordered that all such cases be rechecked by vigilance squads, and if theft is found at any consumer’s place which had been given all clear by regular officials, action will be taken against such officials. This exercise will be completed by the end of September.Khandait also asked the power officials to immediately restore supply of permanently disconnected consumers who have paid reconnection charges. There were 16,776 PD consumers in Vidarbha, who had paid reconnection charges but 7,311 are yet to get reconnected.The distribution losses in Akola, Malkapur, Amravati, Anjangaon and Achalpur towns have increased greatly. Khandait has fixed the responsibility on the concerned superintending engineers (SEs) and executive engineers (EEs). They have been asked to take their subordinates to task and take action against officers who fail to reduce losses. The recovery from public water works is very low and hence they should be immediately disconnected, he added.
