NAGPUR: A couple of days after TOI report, the Nagpur University (NU) uploaded the six missing syllabi for foundations courses but didn’t rectify the French course. Shockingly, while the wrong French syllabus remains unchanged, similar erroneous content was found included in Communication Skills and German. It has come to fore that the syllabi for foreign languages were never prepared though the foundation course was introduced as a mandatory condition for the choice-based credit system (CBCS).Meanwhile, the glitches in the syllabi are likely to pose challenges for students who may remain clueless about their subject content. On November 2, TOI had reported the blunder in the syllabus of French and about the six missing foundation courses.Following up the investigation, TOI found that German syllabus had same erroneous content as French in its optional unit. In fact, a portion of content in German are word for word same as that in French. Communication Skills, which was also among the six missing syllabus, too had content from MA English Literature as major part of the document. In both cases, it appears that the text has been randomly copied and uploaded.NU sources said the special task committee, formed in the absence of Board of Studies, had noted in their report to NU administration that it was not possible to formulate the syllabus of other foreign languages because the university doesn’t have postgraduate department or approved teachers in French, German and Russian. A committee member confirmed to TOI that the university was following the old syllabi for foreign language which was introduced around 10 years ago.Giving themselves a clean chit, NU officials claimed that no student has opted these courses whose syllabi were either missing or had wrong contents as no complaint has been received so far. Also, the exam section is grappling with third-semester timetable which is yet to be finalized.Exam officials had admitted that it was the foundation course had held up the timetable.Earlier the exam section officials had blamed the academic section for the blunders. They also said that there were some students who had opted French and German. On October 28, TOI had reported that the exam section was yet to prepare the timetable for all regular third-semester PG courses. NU officials had referred to foundation course causing the inordinate delay.Vice chancellor SP Kane didn’t answer to TOI’s calls.
