Cadaver donations on 2 consecutive days take Nagpur’s tally to 42

The 29 liver transplants include 13 at New Era Hospital, one each at Alexis Hospital and Wockhardt Hospital. This patient was under treatment at Sawangi Wardha and was brought to New Era Hospital where he was declared brain-dead. One of the donors belonged to Amravati while the other was from Wardha.The tally of kidney transplants has now reached 76 while 29 liver transplants have been done since 2013. Nagpur: Two kidneys, a liver and two corneas were donated by relatives of two brain-dead patients on Friday and Saturday, making it 42 cadaver donations in the city since 2013. The liver went to a 40-year-old man at New Era Hospital.

Nagpur: Two kidneys, a liver and two corneas were donated by relatives of two brain-dead patients on Friday and Saturday, making it 42 cadaver donations in the city since 2013. One of the donors belonged to Amravati while the other was from Wardha.The tally of kidney transplants has now reached 76 while 29 liver transplants have been done since 2013. The 29 liver transplants include 13 at New Era Hospital, one each at Alexis Hospital and Wockhardt Hospital. Other livers were sent outside Nagpur when their transplant was not available in city.The organ donations on Friday and Saturday were done under the leadership of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) team headed by Dr Vibhawari Dani and Dr Ravi Wankhede as president and secretary. Veena Wathore coordinated the allocations and transport of the organs to the respective hospitals.The family of 65-year-old Umesh Radhakrishna Agrawal from Arvi in Wardha donated his kidneys, liver and corneas at the radiant Super Speciality Hospital at Amravati where he was under treatment. The second donor was 52-year-old Ashok Sawarbandhe. This patient was under treatment at Sawangi Wardha and was brought to New Era Hospital where he was declared brain-dead. Both were accident victims.In case of Agrawal, his wife Isha and other family members Mahesh, Tanmay, Varnika initiated the donation . While in case of Sawarbandhe, his son Suraj, brother-in-law Tarachand Gujarkar agreed for the donation.One of the kidneys of Agrawal was donated to a 39-year-old woman at Wockhardt Hospital and the other went to a 59-year-old man at Care Hospital as per the ZTCC wait list. The liver went to a 40-year-old man at New Era Hospital. Sawarbandhe’s one kidney and liver was sent to New Era while another kidney to Wockhardt hospital.The organs from Amravati were brought via a green corridor under the guidance of PI Ravi Kshirsagar. The team started from Amravati at 10.30am and reached Nagpur at 12.20pm.On Sunday, a cadaver kidney transplant will be taking place at the Super Specialty Hospital at the Government Medical College and Hospital.
