NAGPUR: Attending a birthday party at a friend’s house turned tragic for a family after a 10-year-old boy was crushed under a speeding truck while returning from the celebration, on Tuesday night on Nag River bridge near Pardi.The victim, identified as Naitik Sanodiya, a Std III student, succumbed to injures at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), while his four-year-old brother Duggu, 4, sustained minor injuries. They were on the bike being driven by their uncle Rakesh when the accident took place.Rajendrasingh Rajput , one of the eyewitness and uncle of Naitik, told TOI, “Around 10 from our family were returning home on four bikes after attending birthday of my friend’s daughter.”He claimed that Naitik was on the bike in front of them when the speeding truck hit it from behind. “The bridge has become narrow due to ongoing construction work. On not getting enough space to pass, the truck dashed Rakesh’s bike which fell on right side. Naitik fell on the left side and the truck ran over his left thigh. He fell unconscious,” said Rajput. The NHAI is constructing flyover at Pardi where the accident took place.Other family members on other bikes soon reached the spot and nabbed the truck driver. Meanwhile, Naitik was rushed to a private hospital in an auto. The doctors there referred him to GMCH where Naitik died during treatment.Meanwhile, Naitik’s relatives who had nabbed the truck were confronted by some of truck driver’s kin. The accused managed to flee the spot along with the truck after five to six people asked Naitik’s relatives to step aside.It is learnt, Naitik’s father is a truck driver in Kolkata. He rushed to the city by flight after learning about the incident.A case of rash driving and death due to negligence has been registered at Kalamna police station. Cops have currently procured the number of the truck (AP/25/ U/6035) and are currently tracking it.The post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday at GMCH where most of Naitik’s relatives were present. His body has been taken to his native village near Seoni for last rites.
