Mayor invites innovative ideas from schools, colleges

Nagpur: In an effort to change the face of Nagpur for better, Mayor Innovation Awards have been instituted in which schools and colleges will be roped in to give fresh ideas on 25 types of civic works. “Schools and colleges can participate in any of the 25 topics,” he said.Corporator Sunil Agrawal, additional municipal commissioner Ram Joshi and deputy municipal commissioner Nitin Khapadnis were present at the press conference. “Participants will have to register online and also submit their presentation online on mayorinnovationawards.in. Details related to the contest will be made available on this website.Presentations will be given at Suresh Bhat Sabhagruh on February 1 and the awards ceremony will be held on March 2, she said.Jichkar said individuals with innovative projects will also require to register online.

Titled ‘Hackathon’, the competition will be held in three age categories, from 12 to 16, 16 to 20 and above 20 years, to mark NMC’s anniversary.Apart from this, individuals who have made innovative projects, will be felicitated.Jichkar said registration will start from January 16 and end on January 25. “Participants will have to register online and also submit their presentation online on mayorinnovationawards.in. Details related to the contest will be made available on this website.Presentations will be given at Suresh Bhat Sabhagruh on February 1 and the awards ceremony will be held on March 2, she said.Jichkar said individuals with innovative projects will also require to register online. “A panel of experts and NMC officials will be constituted for the competition and selection of individuals for felicitation.”Civic works selected for the competition are Green Nagpur, water losses, renewable energy, traffic regulation, cleanliness of drainage lines, zero waste management, rain water harvesting, fire safety in high rise buildings, smart campus in NMC schools, charging stations for electric vehicles, fly ash utilization, healthy midday meal, planning of weekly markets, solid waste management, fire safety, working pattern of government departments, open gym maintenance, stray cattle, dog menace, public safety, slums development and NMC hospitals, besides others.Principal Prashant Kadu said NMC officials will visit colleges to create aware about the contest. “Schools and colleges can participate in any of the 25 topics,” he said.Corporator Sunil Agrawal, additional municipal commissioner Ram Joshi and deputy municipal commissioner Nitin Khapadnis were present at the press conference.
