NU’s convocation now at Bhat Hall

Different reasons made it change its guest, dates and now the venue. A private function had to be cancelled for January 18 at Deshpande Hall.However, that wasn’t the end of last minute changes as NU authorities managed to get the booking for Suresh Bhat after city heavyweight Nitin Gadkari accepted the invitation.Asked about the venue change, acting registrar Niraj Khaty said there were some administrative issues. Sources said that since Gadkari is coming, Deshpande Hall may not have been able to accommodate the large number of guests, mainly supporters.Officially, NU brass has been maintaining that number of PhDs have gone up, forcing it to look for a bigger venue.Planning for the 106th convocation has been going on since September with NU unable to land a suitable guest, dates and venue.
