A private function had to be cancelled for January 18 at Deshpande Hall.However, that wasn’t the end of last minute changes as NU authorities managed to get the booking for Suresh Bhat after city heavyweight Nitin Gadkari accepted the invitation.Asked about the venue change, acting registrar Niraj Khaty said there were some administrative issues. Sources said that since Gadkari is coming, Deshpande Hall may not have been able to accommodate the large number of guests, mainly supporters.Officially, NU brass has been maintaining that number of PhDs have gone up, forcing it to look for a bigger venue.Planning for the 106th convocation has been going on since September with NU unable to land a suitable guest, dates and venue. Nagpur: After changing dates and chief guests, now it is the venue for Nagpur University’s 106th convocation venue that has been changed, for the second time.Last year in September, NU had planned to hold the convocation at Suresh Bhat Auditorium but couldn't get reservation due to some other event on the date it was planning to hold the convocation.Then, NU brass had secured booking for Deshpande Hall for January 19, only to change it to a day earlier (January 18) as the chancellor changed his mind and consented to attend the event.
