Surprise checks at state nursing colleges

In Nagpur, there are 18 nursing colleges including private and government with intake of more than 400 seats. 19 colleges have MSC nursing courses and total intake capacity is 246. Nagpur Surprise inspections will be held at institutes in Maharashtra providing BSC, Post Basic BSC, and MSC courses in nursing from February 16. But the scores will be declared on the MUHS website before admission process for the 2019-20 academic year,” Chavan said.Currently, there are 82 colleges in the state offering BSC in nursing with total intake capacity of 3,015. Total 35 colleges offer PBBSc with intake of 622 seats.

Nagpur Surprise inspections will be held at institutes in Maharashtra providing BSC, Post Basic BSC, and MSC courses in nursing from February 16. As per the directives of Central and state nursing councils, local inquiry committees of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) will conduct the impact assessment of these colleges.MUHS registrar Dr Kalidas Chavan told that assessment will be based on parameters like teaching, learning and evaluation, research, innovation and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, and student support etc. “Inspecting teams would be at the institutes any time till February 25,” he said.Nursing colleges will face such assessment for the first time this year. Similar assessment of AYUSH colleges (ayurvedic, homeopathy and Unani) was done last year. Each college will be judged on different criteria and will be given marks out of 1,000. Colleges scoring ‘very less’ marks will lose affiliation with MUHS.“As this is first year, we haven’t set any passing criteria or minimum marks. But the scores will be declared on the MUHS website before admission process for the 2019-20 academic year,” Chavan said.Currently, there are 82 colleges in the state offering BSC in nursing with total intake capacity of 3,015.
